Luke Skywalker speaks in the first trailer for The Last Jedi

On occasion of The Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration today, we finally got our first look at Episode VIII and some words from Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Throughout the first trailer for the film directed by Rian Johnson we see Daisy Ridley’s Rey getting counseled by her elder, but it ends on an ominous note from Luke. “I only know one truth,” he says. “It’s time for the Jedi to end.” (Ever since the title was announced, there’s been speculation as to just who it referenced. Indeed, translations seemed to imply that the “Jedi” was meant to be plural.)

Lest you somehow forgot where The Force Awakens left off, we last saw Rey finding a robed Luke Skywalker on a mountaintop, greeting him with the gift of his own lightsaber. During the panel, Ridley teased their meeting in the new film, explaining: “It’s difficult when you meet your heroes because it might not be what you expect.” The Last Jedi is set to zoom into theaters December 15. You can also see the new teaser poster below.
