M.I.A. releases new songs, braces for letter from Disney’s lawyers
Pitchfork reports that M.I.A. has released two new songs, “MIA OLA” and “Foreign Friend,” both written about immigration. The always-relevant issue has been a recent preoccupation for the musician: Her most recent single, “Borders,” addresses the same subject. “Borders” is slated to appear on her forthcoming album, Matahdatah; it’s not clear whether the new songs are part of that release or not.
But at least one of the songs might not be around for long. “MIA OLA” samples The Lion King’s soundtrack, and M.I.A. is already bracing for a visit from Disney’s notoriously active legal department:
