Mad Men creator: Show's fate "unknowable"

Contract negotiations between Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and executives at Lionsgate, which produces the show for AMC, continue to be at an impasse. Talking to press after winning the Golden Globe for Best Television Series (Drama) for the second year in a row, Weiner offered a grim prognostication for a third season, saying the fate of the show is “unknowable.” Weiner’s comments are only the latest salvo in a tough negotiation that has frequently spilled over into the media, including reports that Weiner was asking for as much as $10 million per season and that AMC, in turn, was threatening to move forward with another season, with or without Weiner.

On the latter point, cast member Christina Hendricks made her allegiance clear last night, saying, “There is no show without Matthew.”
