Mad Men’s Matthew Weiner is directing an episode of Orange Is The New Black

Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black is adding another big name to its lineup of high-profile episode directors, with news coming this week that Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner will be helming an episode of the show’s fourth season (presumably haunting morally complicated protagonist Piper Chapman with her memory of that time Larry didn’t save the show to watch with her on DVR). By signing on for his friend Jenji Kohan’s hit series, Weiner will be joining a group of behind-the-camera luminaries that also includes Nicole Holofcener, Allison Anders, and Jodie Foster, who directed the show’s second season premiere.

There are no details yet about what Weiner’s episode will feature, or how it’ll use iconic moments from American history to highlight the inevitable decline of Chapman’s moral character. (That’s kind of Weiner’s thing, after all, along with never telling us what happened to Sal, and writing episodes of Becker.) His episode of Orange will mark the former showrunner’s first gig since Mad Men ended earlier this year; it’ll also be the first time he’ll be directing an episode of TV that he himself didn’t happen to write.
