Madonna is not down for the Madonna biopic

Madonna has spoken out against plans to film an unauthorized biopic of her life, hopping on Instagram today to label anyone but her trying to tell her life story as a “charlatan and a fool.” (And a clown, going off of her emoji use.)

The music icon’s ire was focused on Blonde Ambition, a new project that was announced by Universal yesterday. Based on a Black List script from writer Elyse Hollander, the film purports to tell the story of Madonna in the 1980s, “navigating fame, romance, and the dismissive attitude of the music industry at the time.” But, Madonna contends, that’s not anybody’s story to tell but her own. “Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen,” she posted.

It’s not clear what impact the star’s dissaproval will have on plans for the movie to go forward. We have to assume it’ll make it harder for Universal to license the singer’s music for the film, and without “Like A Virgin” or “Like A Prayer” on its soundtrack, it’s kind of hard to see the point of the whole exercise in the first place.
