Mads Mikkelsen finally shows up in the latest Rogue One trailer

Disney is ramping up anticipation for the first of its standalone Star Wars movies: First with a character-packed poster in the tradition of so many before it, and now a new trailer, which debuted on Good Morning America. The latest look at the movie introduces us to Mads Mikkelsen’s Galen Erso, who’s Jyn’s father. In a flashback he tells her, “Whatever I do, I do to protect you.” Then he meets Ben Mendelsohn’s baddie, Director Orson Krennic, in a field.

Rogue One follows Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso and her band of rebels as they attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star. Now we learn their mission involves seeking out her very own dad, who built the darn weapon. Over the summer reports came in that the movie was undergoing extensive reshoots, stirring concern that it wasn’t going to be all that good. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jones described the reshoots as necessary finessing, though: “I’ve done it so many times. I mean, you wouldn’t just give your first draft on this story, would you?,” she said. Rogue One troops into theaters December 16.
