Maisie Williams is Wolfsbane in the X-Men spinoff New Mutants
Fox is doubling down on recruiting the Stark family for its long-running X-Men franchise, with news coming today that Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams has been cast in the role of Rahne “Wolfsbane” Sinclair in the studio’s New Mutants. The young adult-focused spinoff is being helmed by The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone, who presumably knows his way around outsider teenagers trying to find their way in the world. For example: As her name suggests, Wolfsbane’s mutant power is basically that she’s a werewolf, something Williams should be accustomed to after several years as the frequently feral Arya Stark. (Meanwhile, her TV-series sister, Sophie Turner, also recently joined the wider X-Men franchise, signing on for the part of Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.)
HitFix is reporting the news, along with the fact that Apocalypse cast member Alexandra Shipp will be reprising her new role as Storm for the teen-focused film. The site also reported another New Mutants casting, as well: Illyana “Magik” Rasputin, the little sister of Deadpool co-star Colossus. Magik will be played by Anya Taylor-Joy, the breakout star of this year’s Puritan nightmare The Witch.
In other news: we’re only a few hours away from the annual horror of April 1, International Liars’ Day. So if it turns out that someone is running a prank by pretending to cast Maisie Williams as a wolf girl and the actress from The Witch as a witch, you’ll know it’s happened when you see that we’ve gone ahead and just burnt the entire internet to the ground.
