If there’s one thing we can definitively conclude from the Netflix true crime documentary Making A Murderer, it’s that America’s sexualization of white male criminal defense attorneys has hit its apex. Jerry Buting and normcore icon Dean Strang, Steven Avery’s lawyers during the trail following his alleged 2005 rape and murder of Teresa Halbach, have become sex symbols in the wake of Netflix’s latest binge craze. Anyway, those clever heartthrobs are putting their newfound fame to good use by drawing attention to the blatant shortcomings in our country’s justice system. They’ve appeared on talk shows, podcasts, and more to discuss Avery’s case and conviction, which they maintain is unfair regardless of his potential involvement in the crime. Now Uproxx reports they’re going on tour to spread the gospel of Buting and Strang in a number of different cities, including Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Detroit. A portion of ticket sales—which are ranging from $40-$60 a seat—will go to the Wisconsin Innocence Fund, which was partially responsible for overturning Avery’s original 1985 rape conviction.
