Writer-producer Dan Kopelman, whose sitcom credits include Malcolm In The Middle, Rules Of Engagement, and True Jackson, VP, is developing a new comedy for CBS. The latest in a crop of new multi-camera sitcoms will follow four guys who were best friends in college, and 10 years later are still roommates. So, New Girl, but without any pesky girls. Or Friends who don’t have any, you know, female friends.
The show seems almost certain to be a look at males in arrested adolescence—but can that subject matter work as a sitcom? It’s certainly never been tried before, so kudos to CBS for continuing its tradition of groundbreaking comedy. If this experimental pilot gets picked up, look for New Girl But Without Any Girls Because, Eww, Gross to air on CBS next fall, opposite New Girl.
