Marco Polo season two trailer should excite the show’s dozen or so fans

If you’re excited for the upcoming sophomore season of the Netflix original series Marco Polo, you’re not alone—well, probably not. It’s hard to say, since the streaming network refuses to divulge how many, if any, people are watching it (or any of its other shows). But since it opted to pour a lot more money into another 10 episodes of this 13th century period drama, it gives us sufficient cause to believe that it must have a moderately solid fan base hungry for more steely-eyed glaring and naked concubine assassins.

Created by John Fusco (Young Guns), the intrigue-filled series stars Lorenzo Richelmy as the eponymous Venetian merchant traveler, and Benedict Wong as the Mongolian conqueror Kublai Khan. More familiar faces in the recurring cast include Joan Chen (Twin Peaks) as Khan’s empress wife and Rick Yune (The Fast and the Furious) as the head of the Chagatai Khanate. Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) joins the cast this season as a mysterious character currently billed as the Handmaiden.

Marco Polo’s new season will debut in full on Netflix on July 1.
