Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan go to war in the first Mary Queen Of Scots trailer
If you are thirsty for some big, expensive, historically based drama with lots of swords and wild-ass costumes in it—and who isn’t, really—the Mary Queen Of Scots trailer will slake your long thirst. Lady Bird’s Saoirse Ronan and I, Tonya’s Margot Robbie square off as the titular character and Elizabeth I, respectively, who engaged in a long power struggle after Mary claimed Elizabeth’s throne for her own. Spoilers for the film are currently all over the internet, particularly Wikipedia, given that it has all already occurred in the actual real world, but the film looks to take place over the course of decades, if only going by the increasingly haggard state of Robbie’s makeup in the trailer. It was written by House Of Cards’ Beau Willimon, whose skillset should play nicely with a bit of historical intrigue, and directed by theater veteran Josie Rourke, making her film debut. A whole bunch of other fine actors—including David Tennant, Guy Pearce, and Joe Alwyn—will probably hit each with swords and deliver good monologues. It’s due out December 7 this year.
