Margot Robbie will host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live usually likes to put its best foot forward with its first guest host of the year, like Tina Fey in 2013, or Chris Pratt at the height of 2014’s epidemic of Chris Pratt fever. This year, Lorne Michaels and co. have filled the role with the big star of one of the year’s major box office successes, announcing today that Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie has been tapped to host the show’s 42nd season premiere.
Robbie—whose other credits include The Wolf Of Wall Street, The Big Short, and Focus—will step into an SNL that’s faced some pretty major shake-ups over the last summer. The show lost three performers between seasons, including long-timers like Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah. (Jon Rudnitsky was the third.) Meanwhile, Rolling Stone reports that newcomers Mikey Day, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor (but apparently not the previously reported Chris Redd) have all been added to the cast.
Robbie’s resume is a little light on comedy, mostly favoring the dramatic side of her career. She did recently co-star in Fey’s war dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, though, and displayed a strong preference for Jokers in her latest major role.
