Maria Bamford’s Lady Dynamite hits Netflix in May
Last summer, Maria Bamford landed her own comedy series at Netflix, to the delight of fans of her dynamic stand-up, hilarious guest spots on Arrested Development and Kroll Show, or her extensive voiceover work, which includes roles on Adventure Time and BoJack Horseman (truly, there’s something for everyone). The half-hour comedy will tell the story of a woman, loosely based on Bamford, who “loses—and then finds—her shit”. (The reveal of that lower-case “h” presumably rules out our idea for a story about a character named Lady Dynamite who finds a superpowered suit, possibly in a mansion, a la Ant-Man.)
Now Bamford has announced that the 12-episode series will hit Netflix on May 20, a date that’s also notable for being the day on which Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart piloted the first non-stop solo flights across the Atlantic (in 1927 and 1932, respectively). We assume that’s what the plane emoji in Bamford’s tweet is referencing, though we’ve yet to determine the meaning behind the fax machine.
And here’s Bamford’s giddy, on-camera announcement:
