In all the hoopla surrounding the death of Anna Nicole Smith, no one ever stopped to think of the real victims: those poor TV journalists who were forced to talk about her when they'd rather be talking about, like, the war and stuff. In her recent speech to the annual California Governor And First Lady's Conference On Women, NBC News reporter Maria Shriver cited Smith as the fat, drugged-up nail in the coffin of her career as a reporter, saying, "It was then that I knew that the TV news business had changed and so had I. I called NBC News and told them I'm not coming back." Shriver's last dalliance with the network was a pair of guest-anchor appearances on Dateline in 2004, followed by an extended leave of absence once her husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, took office as governor. These days Shriver balances her time between fulfilling her duties as California's First Lady and sharpening her face.
