Mariah Carey wins the 10-Year Challenge: "Time is not something I acknowledge"
If you’ve been on social media in the last week or so, you’ve probably seen people taking part in something called the “10-Year Challenge,” a low-effort, oft-charming meme that involves posting a picture of yourself from 2009 alongside a picture of yourself now. We regret to inform you, however, that the challenge is over. Ladies and gentlemen: Mariah Carey.
This tongue-in-cheek post is, of course, playing off the fact that Carey hasn’t aged a damn day in the last ten years. Seriously. Go look up a real photo of her from 2009. Mariah Carey is eternal. But, while everyone surely got a good laugh out of Carey’s undercutting of the popular meme, it was actually her choice of phrasing that inspired a whole new trend. 2019's new mantra? “Time is not something I acknowledge.”
Unfortunately, the average person may find it a touch more difficult to shrug off time’s crushing weight without the aid of Carey’s pop star money, staff of personal trainers, and secret skin care regimen. We can dream, though, can’t we?
