Mario and some actual babies recreate the year's Best Picture nominees

Last year’s release of Super Mario Odyssey has humanized rotund plumber Mario in ways we could never have imagined. Not only did a pre-release trailer reveal the Italian sprite has a glistening, hairless chest dotted by two pink nipples, but its popularity also prompted the emergence of an ‘80s manga highlighting Mario’s penis.

Now that we know Mario to be a sexual creature, it’s only natural to imagine him in steamy situations, whether it be as the sexually confused teen played by Timothée Chalamet in Call Me By Your Name or the kinky mute Sally Hawkins brought to blush-inducing life in The Shape of Water. And that’s exactly what Twitter user Adam Moussa has given us. Using Odyssey, Moussa has recreated pivotal scenes (or, well, implied scenes) with an emotionally complex Mario at the center. See a few examples both above and below, and don’t forget to chuckle at Moussa’s use of a nut in lieu of a peach.

Moussa also had a go at some of the less sexual nominees, from Phantom Thread to I, Tonya to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

If animated parodies aren’t your thing, there’s also the adorable Instagram account Don’t Call Me Oscar. Since 2012, one family’s been recreating shots from the year’s most lauded films using their kids, who, wouldn’t you know it, just keep getting bigger every year.
