Mario Lopez + huge piñatas = illest video-game promotion ever

Not satisfied to merely play Viva Piñata, a new Xbox 360 game that lets you create your own custom piñata-land? If you're in Southern California on Saturday, you can also celebrate the game's release at the Santa Monica Pier with infernal TV prettyboy Mario Lopez and with Microsoft's own 35-foot piñata. From the press release:

The same weekend, the Xbox 360 team in Mexico City is hosting a Viva Piñata celebration and creating a giant Horstachio Piñata guaranteed to beat the current record and become the World's Biggest Piñata.

"Look, Mexicans, a huge American company does it better than you!" It's not clear why Mario Lopez would be a draw, as the game (and a tie-in TV show due out next year) is aimed mostly at kids too young to remember Saved By The Bell. Tough call; If you don't go, your kids will hate you. If you do go, you'll hate your kids.
