Marisa Tomei joins Empire as boss billionaire

Marisa Tomei has joined the cast of Empire for a recurring role in season two, Deadline reports. Tomei is set to play Mimi Whiteman, a lesbian billionaire who gets wrapped up in Lyon family drama. She’s described as a “demanding venture capitalist” and “lover of hip hop music, social trends, high-end fashion, and”—wait for it—“beautiful women.” (Okay, we’re on board.) Oscar winner Tomei has stuck mostly to films in recent years, but she had a recurring role on FX’s Rescue Me back in 2006, and is currently developing a Gloria Steinem miniseries at HBO. She will star as feminist icon Steinem in the miniseries, and is also producing the project alongside George Clooney.

Tomei joins Empire’s growing roster of big-name season two guest stars, which already includes Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz. The dysfunctional Lyons family will return to Fox on Wednesday, September 23 at 9 PM.
