Mark Mothersbaugh explains the origins of Devo in a charming animated short
Mark Mothersbaugh is the rare dynamo who seems totally down-to-earth. Despite his illustrious career as Devo co-founder, frequent Wes Anderson collaborator, and Rugrats and Lego Movie composer, he always gave the impression of being simply a humble yet extraordinarily talented geek on a mission. This new animated short, produced by Google Play and California Sunday Magazine as part of its “California Inspires Me” series, does little to dispel that image. In three all-too-brief minutes, Mothersbaugh talks about seeing the world for the first time with proper eyesight (he grew up legally blind), his musical inspiration, and the origins of the band.
