Mark Wahlberg to see if he could have stopped the BP oil spill
Fresh off his role as a robot scientist in Transformers, Mark Wahlberg is in talks to glare at more big machinery in Deepwater Horizon, the dramatic retelling of the 2010 BP oil spill that—like so many other disasters in recent history—Mark Wahlberg probably could have stopped. He’ll finally get his chance in the J.C. Chandor-directed film, which will send Wahlberg back in time to the final 48 hours aboard the Gulf Coast rig that exploded, killing 11 men and injuring several others, and causing it to spew oil into the water for 87 days. Wahlberg will play the “No. 2 manager” on the rig, presumably responsible for managing all the deep shit they’re in. “Hey oil, you think you can just gush all over like you’re some kinda big shot?” Wahlberg will say, pointing his forehead at the sea. “How ’bout I come down there and show you what crude really looks like?”
