Although Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. has yet to premiere, Marvel’s ABC and Marvel’s Marvel are already brainstorming other possibilities for Marvel TV series exploring the smaller, less expensive stories on the fringes of their superhero universe. Deadline reports that the first of these could be Agent Carter, spawned—like S.H.I.E.L.D. was from Item 47—from an upcoming “one-shot” in which Hayley Atwell reprises her Captain America character, as seen on the upcoming Iron Man 3 Blu-ray and in the clip below. The short follows Atwell’s Peggy Carter as she rebounds from her boyfriend being frozen by throwing herself into her work and becoming an even-more-kickass secret agent, occasionally pausing to shake her fist ruefully at the snow.
Right now the concept’s only in the early development stage, so it’s unclear as yet whether Agent Carter would retain its period setting, or Atwell would even be interested in participating. (Though as Coming Soon reports, she sort-of suggested she might be—or, being English, she was just being polite). Still, as Deadline notes, the show would definitely “fit right into ABC’s wheelhouse of female-skewing dramas with a strong lead” in which they are sexily betrayed by something—in this case, ice.
