“What do you know about Wakanda?” That’s the first question out of the mouth of Andy Serkis—unslathered in CGI for once, and playing villainous arms dealer Ulysses Klaue—in the new teaser for Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther. Opposite a smirking Martin Freeman, Klaue makes it clear that the glimpses we got of the reclusive African nation in Captain America: Civil War were just the barest hints of what Black Panther’s homeland has to offer, something the teaser—which aired tonight on TV during the NBA Finals—made abundantly clear.
Also clear: Ryan Coogler’s new superhero film is going to be a visual bounty, offering up a stylish look that mixes a comic book love of bright, primary colors with more traditional African designs. As Run The Jewels pulses on the soundtrack, we also get new shots of the movie’s cast—not just title character Chadwick Boseman, but also his friends and enemies—in action, facing off with swords, guns, and good-old mystically powered martial arts.
