Marvel recruits GOTG and Inside Out scribes to write a Captain Marvel script

Just as director Michelle MacLaren departs DC’s Wonder Woman, Marvel’s first foray into the female-driven superhero movie, Captain Marvel, appears to be gaining momentum. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is in negotiations with both Nicole Perlman, co-writer of last year’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, and Meg LeFauve, co-writer of Pixar’s upcoming Inside Out, to write the film.

Like the fusing of Captain Marvel’s (a.k.a. Carol Danvers) Kree and human DNA, Marvel is looking to fuse the talents of Perlman and LeFauve. Marvel Studios president/picker-of-projects/rescuer of Spider-Man Kevin Feige apparently likes both the screenwriter’s takes, and wants to see what happens when they are mashed together into a single story.

LeFauve and Perlman haven’t collaborated before, but that shouldn’t be a problem for Marvel. The two writers could be snatched up by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and transported to a secret base in low Earth orbit; once locked away together, the duo might be blasted with gamma rays, bitten by radioactive spiders, and bound by the Book of the Vishanti’s ancient non-disclosure agreements. Perhaps only then can their combined powers be coaxed into producing the rarest of cosmic elements—a solid block of pure, unrefined Screenplanium. Or they could each deposit their enormous checks, get on really well, and collaborate to make a smart, funny, action-packed script that hits all of the familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe notes. One of those.

Captain Marvel is expected to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
