Marvel’s Luke Cage series gets a premiere date

While Netflix’s data-dump strategy for releasing original series allows us to mainline 10-hour season arcs in a single sitting, it also makes us feel like we’re constantly waiting for our next fix. So it was considerate of Marvel Studios to let fans know ahead of their Daredevil season-two binge that Netflix’s highly anticipated series Luke Cage will be arriving at the end of September.

Mike Colter, who plays the Netflix show’s unbreakable title character, served as the vessel for this information. “Well, I’ll just say this. It’s going to be action-packed from the beginning to the very end. Trust me,” Colter tells Marvel.com’s Lorraine Cink (at around the 2:09 mark) at the New York premiere of the new Daredevil episodes. “Daredevil premieres March 18, and I will see the fans on September 30. You heard it here first.”

Colter originated the Cage character onscreen for the first season of Netflix’s Jessica Jones this past November; Cage, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) will ultimately join forces with the titular character from the upcoming Iron Fist (to be played by Game Of Thrones’ Finn Jones) for Netflix’s amalgamated superhero show, The Defenders.

In the meantime, Luke Cage’s 13-episode first season will follow Cage as he takes advantage of his super-strength and damage-proof skin, becoming a mercenary crime fighter to keep a roof over his head. The supporting cast will include Sonia Braga (Kiss of The Spider Woman), Theo Rossi (Sons Of Anarchy), and Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave).
