Mary Poppins Returns along with her umbrella in the first sequel photos

A certain governess is still staging elaborate scenes on the streets of London in the first photos from Mary Poppins Returns that debuted on Entertainment Weekly today. These early looks at the 1930s-set sequel find Poppins, now played by Emily Blunt, palling around with Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays a lamplighter—and Dick Van Dyke substitute—named Jack, and otherwise using the city as her jungle gym.

The colors are bright and evocative of the original, although this is a story of Poppins bringing cheer in a time of economic strife. Now she’s caring for the widowed Michael Banks’ (Ben Whishaw) three children. The accompanying story teases the presence of animated penguins and an “upside-down” cousin played by Meryl Streep. Streep appears right side up and rehearsing in an image. We’ll have to wait for the penguins.
