Matt Bomer to finally put on a different kind of hat for The Magnificent Seven

Even for a remake of a Western about seven gunfighters, a handful of townsfolk, and a few villains, Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven is looking pretty crowded. It already has Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Haley Bennett, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Wagner Moura, Luke Grimes, Lee Byung-hun, and Jason Momoa, which—by our count—is at least 30 people. With Momoa playing a bad guy and Bennett playing the woman who hires the heroes, that means we’ve apparently got the eponymous Magnificent Seven in place, so there should be no need for the movie to cast anyone else.

Except The Hollywood Reporter says that Fuqua has just hired Matt Bomer to join The Magnificent Seven, bumping the cast to, like, 90 people. THR says Bomer will play Bennett’s husband, “a man who tries to stand up to the robber baron” that is terrorizing her town. Seeing as how Bennett hires the gunfighters to save her town, and the description says Bomer “tries” to face the bad guys, we’re going to assume he doesn’t live long enough to count himself among the Magnificent Seven. Prove us wrong, Bomer!
