Maximum Risk
Look out! It's Jean-Claude Van Damme in a challenging dual role as twins—again! No, America's favorite Belgian doesn't get to fight himself. Instead, Van Damme gets to exact revenge for himself when he plays a French soldier whose long-lost twin is killed by colleagues in the Russian mafia. In order to put things right, the soldier must assume his brother's identity and travel to America, where he befriends wacky cabbies, stares down bumbling FBI agents, gallantly doesn't take advantage of family resemblance in order to have sex with his brother's lover (Natasha Henstridge), and finally faces down the bad guys in their own bathrooms. Famed Hong Kong director Ringo Lam can't really do anything with Maximum Risk beyond giving it a couple of truly riveting chase scenes. Give Maximum Risk a pass and wait for Van Damme's next movie in which he stars as Siamese twins, one a churchgoing family man and the other an international terrorist.
