Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, October 26. All times are Eastern.
Top picks
MLB World Series Game #2 (Fox, 7:30 p.m.): The Chicago Cubs face the Cleveland Indians for the second game of the World Series. Are the Cubs really going to do it? Are they going to win the World Series? It won’t be decided in this game, but the Cubs should at least win here. Unless they want to look bad in front of the other top picks. Fred Armisen will judge them, and no one wants that.
Documentary Now! (IFC, 10 p.m.): The second season finale of Documentary Now! doubles down on the concept of documentaries with the hour-long episode “Mr. Runner Up: My Life As An Oscar Bridesmaid.” The episode title really says it all, which is always helpful, but if you want more specifics, this is Documentary Now!’s take on the 2002 Robert Evans documentary The Kid Stays In The Picture. Much like “Mr. Runner Up” and his hopeful Oscar win, Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya has been preparing her whole life—well, all two seasons of Documentary Now!—to write this review.
Rectify (Sundance TV, 10 p.m.): Rectify returns for its fourth and final season with “A House Divided.” As you might have assumed, the episode synopsis isn’t a wealth of plot information: “Daniel deals with the complicated group dynamics of living at the New Canaan Project, and figuring how to cope in his new environment.” Still, we’re pretty sure it’ll be something special. So to prepare yourself for this premiere, read Gwen Ihnat’s interview with Rectify’s own Amantha, Abigail Spencer. You can also go back and watch the first three seasons of Rectify, which is very much the key to all of this. If you want to start watching Timeless or even Lethal Weapon, those are also viable options, but Erik Adams thinks they’re really more extra credit than anything else.
Premieres and finales
Betrayed (Investigation Discovery, 9 p.m.): Investigation Discovery continues its one network mission to make audiences fear once-trusted people, places, and things, with the first season finale of Betrayed. In the episode, “Flirting With Death”: “Suspects abound when a single mom is murdered, including her new boyfriend’s ex, her best friend and a co-worker.” Our guess? They all did it. Everyone is the murderer. “Never trust a person”: That’s Investigation Discovery’s motto, in case you were wondering.
Ghost Hunters (Syfy, 9 p.m.): The 11th season finale—which just so happens to be the series finale—of Syfy’s Ghost Hunters is all a “Manor Of Mystery”: “A museum director and volunteer are worried that an upcoming Victorian exhibit could agitate entities from that time period.” Yes, someone hired that museum director and the museum director supposedly hired that volunteer. And this is where those hiring practices led. Also: “Actors Rachel Nichols and Jonathan Sadowski join as special guest investigators.”
Little Women: Atlanta (Lifetime, 10 p.m.): The Little Women: Atlanta “Reunion” wraps up tonight with part two, and we promise it’s not all just a means to promote a new Little Women spin-off. “The reunion continues, as Monie reveals she only wants one maid of honor. Later, a surprise guest jeopardizes Monie’s wedding plans; Charity and Hope try to set the record straight; and a sneak peek of Little Women: Dallas is shared.” All right, we lied. Deal with it, just like you’ll deal with this reunion.
Paranormal Witness (Syfy, 10 p.m.): Unlike Ghost Hunters, Syfy’s Paranormal Witness still has a lot left in the tank and is only at the end of its fifth season. Here, in “The Night Ward”: “Claims of alarming paranormal events witnessed by a woman who is overseeing the renovation of an abandoned hospital are investigated.” This might actually be a misplaced episode of Scream Queens season two, but we may never know.
Jon Glaser Loves Gear (TruTV, 10 p.m.): “Jon goes cycling with Janeane Garofalo and Michael Shannon.” What more do you even need from a television show? Josh Modell gave the premiere a B+, describing Jon Glaser’s go-to character as “a loud, arrogant know-it-all, but one whose nasty sense of humor makes him fun as hell to watch.”
