"Mayor Of Hollywood" dies
Johnny Grant, the genial host of more than 500 induction ceremonies on the Walk Of Fame and the honorary mayor of Hollywood, died today at the age of 84. Grant spent his life traveling the world as a spokesman for Tinseltown, entertaining soldiers alongside Bob Hope at USO events where he introduced troops to performers like Debbie Reynolds and Angie Dickinson, while at home he could often be found hosting red carpet Oscar festivities, producing the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade, and appearing in bit parts in movies such as The Babe Ruth Story and White Christmas. Before beginning his "mayoral" duties, Grant was a news reporter, game show host, and one of the first radio DJs to incorporate regular traffic reports.
