Mazzy Star is still great at sounding like Mazzy Star on first single in 15 years

As we previously reported, California dream-pop group Mazzy Star is releasing its first music since 1996 in the form of a new single, "Common Burn/Lay Myself Down," that comes out next week. The songs have already appeared online, and they both sound pretty wonderful. All the elements of the Mazzy Star sound are still in place: the ghostly acoustic guitars, the warm splashes of pedal steel, the draggy drums, and Hope Sandoval's smoky vocals.
