Dancer turned choreographer turned So You Think You Can Dance judge turned director turned Miley Cyrus lapdance-recipient Adam Shankman is said to be producing a quasi-spinoff of Mean Girls called Mean Moms for New Line. And by “quasi-spinoff,” we mean it’s being adapted, like Mean Girls before it, from an advice book by Rosalind Wiseman, whose Queen Bee Moms And Kingpin Dads: Dealing with the Parents, Teachers, Coaches, And Counselors Who Can Make—Or Break—Your Child's Future will form the basis for a comedy about a family moving to a ritzy new suburb, where a happy mother of two suddenly finds herself in the “cutthroat world of competitive parenting.”
While the movie won’t bring back any Mean Girls characters, it’s something of a spiritual successor—similar in tone, and with a title that clearly hopes to attract fans of the first film. Of course, most of the appeal of Mean Girls had to do with Tina Fey’s script and a fresh-faced ingénue known as Lindsay Lohan, and with neither of them anywhere near this thing (for better and for worse), it remains to be seen whether it will have anywhere near the same success. But it’ll probably have a snazzy musical number!
