Meet Ellen Page's weird superhero team in the trailer for Netflix's The Umbrella Academy

With The Defenders almost completely cut loose, it’s time for Netflix to move on to another superhero comic adaptation with The Umbrella Academy, an adaptation of the comic series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The streaming service released the first trailer for the series this weekend, and while there are a number of small changes from the original comic, the tone in particular makes this look like a surprisingly faithful take on Way and Bá’s goth superhero story. Also, the song is a good choice, there’s a Wes Anderson-y vibe, and there’s a brief glimpse of a monkey. Interestingly, there don’t seem to be any hints here as to what happens to Ellen Page’s character in the comic, so it’s possible that Netflix could either go in a different direction or—like it did with every predictable reveal in the Marvel shows—drag it out as long as it possibly can.
