Addressing both the increasing dearth of British people delivering American people the news, and news shows that, exhaustingly, insist on telling you things as soon as they happen, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver arrives April 27 on HBO. This trailer touches on that last bit to great effect, with the typically self-deprecating Oliver reminding viewers repeatedly that—unlike The Daily Show, which at least pretends otherwise—he’s not gonna get around to the “news” until long after it’s happened. Still, like we said, who wants to hear about current events every single weekday? We all have jobs and lives and phones to attend to; save it for late Sunday night, when we can concentrate.
