In its first season, Netflix’s Big Mouth came up with a lot of creative ways to visualize the confusion and humiliation of coming of age. But, as is the extremely NSFW series’ wont, it goes further in season two, introducing David Thewlis as the source of unspoken adolescent disgrace, the Shame Wizard. That pointy-eared, widow-peaked specter is spooky, but he’s also the one part of the trailer you’ll be comfortable with someone spying over your shoulder, what with all the talking pubes, bouncing boobs, and cartoon butts he’s mixed in with. But that prurience is all in service of Big Mouth’s larger goal, of finding the humor and the relatability in what it is one of the few truly universal experiences of human existence. Also, Murray the hormone monster flies into frame trailed by a banner that reads “ANDREW HAS A BONER” which is funny no matter how you slice it.
The second season of Big Mouth debuts October 5; groove is in the heart, always and forever.
