Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures will produce Richard Linklater’s baseball movie

According to Deadline, the kingmakers at Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures will produce Richard Linklater’s That’s What I’m Talking About. Annapurna, for those who don’t keep up with the exciting world of production companies, is the studio behind The Master, Zero Dark Thirty, Her, American Hustle, and The Revenant, the upcoming movie where Leonardo DiCaprio gets mauled by a bear. In other words, when Annapurna puts its name on something, it bodes well for that movie’s future. That means the hypetrain is running pretty fast for That’s What I’m Talking About, which will be Linklater’s first film since Boyhood taught everyone that filming a kid for 12 years is a viable way to make a successful movie—just look for all of the copycats that will be flooding the holo-projectors in our space-theaters in 2026.

That’s What I’m Talking About is going to be a baseball-related comedy, which we know because Deadline’s article about it says things like “the picture is a fastball away from starting production” and “Linklater is quickly filling out the lineup card for this ensemble comedy.” More specifically, it’s about a college baseball team in 1980 and all of the wacky shenanigans a bunch of young people get into when they’re out on their own for the first time. It’s going to star Glee’s Blake Jenner, Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin, 22 Jump Street’s Wyatt Russell, and a bunch of other hip, young people that you would recognize if you weren’t such a stuffy, old person. It’s also being pitched as a “cousin” of Linklater’s Dazed And Confused, so maybe Matthew McConaughey will show up to try and pick up some college girls.
