Melissa Benoist takes flight in CBS’s Supergirl trailer

The trailer for CBS’s Supergirl is here and is filled with the requisite heroics and some self-doubt from its heroine. There’s a girl…then a plane…then a Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) saving a plane, followed by a confession and a little exposition.

We see Kara Danvers, a.k.a. Kara Zor-El, on a rooftop, telling Winn Scott (Jeremy Jordan) that she saved a plane full of people. He looks a little skeptical, possibly because she hasn’t removed her glasses to reveal her true form. After all, this is a world familiar with superheroes, as James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) notes that the flying girl everyone just became aware of is probably a born hero like his old buddy in Metropolis.

The trailer also delivers on the Superman silhouette we were promised, and we see some of the faces of the “worst criminals in the galaxy” on screens in some kind of situation room. Then Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) tells Kara that the world needs her to fly. Kara, now ready to embrace her superpowers, then declares that “Earth doesn’t have just one hero anymore—now it has Supergirl.” And, as of October 26, so does CBS.
