According to The Hollywood Reporter, Meryl Streep’s J.J. Abrams miniseries now has a showrunner in the form of John Logan, late of Penny Dreadful. Logan of course has a long history in highbrow dramas and theater—all things Streep loves. He’s been nominated for three Oscars—for Hugo, The Aviator, and Gladiator—and his play Red won the Tony in 2010. The limited venture is based on the new novel The Nix by Nathan Hill, and delves into the relationship between a professor son and his mother, who commits an “an absurd crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the internet, and inflames a politically divided country.”
The TV project is with Warner Bros. Television, but doesn’t yet have a network attached, but, come on, this has HBO written all over it. (Let’s just pray it doesn’t end up like The Corrections.) Penny Dreadful recently wrapped after two seasons on Showtime.
