Meryl Streep will play Margaret Thatcher
By the edict declaring that she be allowed to play all self-sustained women of a certain age, Meryl Streep is in talks to star as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in an upcoming biopic that will reteam her with Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd. The Iron Lady will take place in 1982, during the tense weeks leading up to the Falklands War; Jim Broadbent will reportedly play Thatcher’s husband Denis. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, taking on the role of Thatcher will be “the highest-profile character” she’s ever tackled, and we should probably just give her the Oscar already.
