MGMT announces new album

It’s been a couple of years since psychedelic rock duo MGMT pumped new music out of the studio, with their last regular release a self-titled LP in 2013. Now, Pitchfork reports that the band—a.k.a. Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser—is planning to get active again this year, announcing that it’ll be playing new music from a “new album” during its tour dates this year.

“Incredibly soon we will get back up on the horse of live music in Memphis,” the band wrote in a recent fan newsletter. “And from atop this great horse we will play old songs and new songs. New songs from our new album that you will newly hear this year!” MGMT is scheduled to play at several festivals this year, including FYF, Sasquatch, Hangout, Panorama, and the aforementioned Memphis-based Beale Street, where its members will be taking the stage (new songs apparently in tow) tonight.
