Mia Farrow talks Trump, kindness, and Myst in 2019's best tweet so far

“Whiplash tweets” is one word for them, tweets that pivot so abruptly between two disparate ideas that one can’t help but do a frenzied double take. Until now, Britney Spears wore the whiplash crown for a 2011 tweet that read thusly: “Does anyone think global warming is a good thing? I love Lady Gaga. I think she’s a really interesting artist.” That’s it. That was the tweet. And, eight years later, it’s still getting retweeted for it’s sheer inability to congeal in our broken brains, which were never meant to consume this much content.

Well, step aside, Brit, because there’s a new tweet in town. Last night, actress Mia Farrow took to the platform to do two things: Bag on Trump and celebrate the 26th anniversary of Myst, the obtuse CD-ROM puzzle game that defined a generation of gamers. “Ive been on this Earth for a long time & have found most people to be kind and good hearted which is the reason i dont think they’ll vote for Donald Trump again. Also the first version of Myst was released in 1993 & I think its still one of the BEST video games.” What.

No shade to Myst, obviously, and the image of Farrow consuming the books of Atrus, Sirrus, and Achenar is a true delight. Also, bless her optimism, especially when a cursory glance of her timeline reveals that’s she’s as steeped as the rest of us in Trump’s detritus. It’s just that the mind puzzles at how, in the course of one tweet, one idea could bleed so seamlessly into the next. Her followers were here for it, though, with many of them flooding her replies with game recommendations (mainly for 2016's The Witness, which we loved) and at least a little bit of gamer shade. Farrow’s reply to the haters? “[P]eople might want to try playing Myst before they criticize.” Hell yeah.

Farrow also suggested its sequel, Riven, to The Last House on the Left actress Jeramie Rain, the ex-wife of actor Richard Dreyfuss. “I am going to do it,” Rain replied. “I will ask my son @bendreyfuss to help me though. HaHa. I have never played a video game.” Do it, Ben!

But has Farrow heard about Firmament? The latest project from the Myst creators is currently running a Kickstarter, and they might wanna kick it her way.
