Michael Bay’s Jack Ryan series is a go at Amazon

Amazon is officially resuscitating Jack Ryan, and Michael Bay will be among those manning the defibrillators. The company announced Tuesday that it has given the go-ahead to a 10-hour series called Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, which will star John Krasinski. If that whole Benghazi movie didn’t convince you that Krasinski really wants to be an action star, this should. Your floppy-haired sitcom crush is now a wannabe badass. Amazon is billing the show as a “reinvention with a modern sensibility of the famed and lauded Tom Clancy hero.” It seemed like Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit was also trying to do that, but let’s be real, you probably don’t remember that Chris Pine vehicle ever happened.

Though Bay’s name is the flashiest on the long list of executive producers behind this project from Paramount and Skydance Television, Lost’s Carlton Cuse created the story for Ryan’s latest adventures along with Graham Roland, a veteran of The Returned and Almost Human, who wrote the pilot. Krasinski will fly around the globe for the gig, which Amazon notes will film in the U.S., as well as unspecified locales in Europe and Africa.
