According to Bloody Disgusting, Audible is planning to record an audio adaptation of William Gibson’s unproduced screenplay for Alien 3 as part of the franchise’s ongoing 40th anniversary celebration. Gibson’s script, which is supposedly way better than the version of Alien 3 that actually got made, was recently adapted into a comic book by Dark Horse, with the audiobook/podcast/radio drama version presumably being based on that. It will have an additional advantage to the comic, though, as Michael Biehn will actually be reprising his role as Corporal Hicks from Aliens, and since Neill Blomkamp’s Alien movie is never going to be happen, this is our only real chance to see—or rather hear—Hicks getting back into the action.

For those who haven’t read Gibson’s version of Alien 3, it takes place shortly after Aliens with that movie’s survivors meeting up with a group of space-communists and visiting a space-mall. With Ripley sidelined, Hicks goes off on his own shopping adventure and discovers that a certain evil super-corporation has been trying to create an army of xenomorphs. The audio drama will apparently be released on May 30, and you can pre-order and see the cast list at Audible’s website.
