Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are scheming lovers in the Macbeth teaser
Fair is foul, foul is fair, and here’s a trailer for the latest big-screen adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Director Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) casts Michael Fassbender as the titular anti-hero and Marion Cotillard as his ambitious wife Lady Macbeth. Together the happy couple make plans to murder the King of Scotland and claim his throne.
We’ve already seen two short clips from the film, but this teaser gives a better sense of its overall tone. For instance, although Kurzel’s adaptation maintains the original Shakespearean verse, his film looks decidedly cinematic. This teaser mostly highlights the film’s moody visuals and epic battles, which generally take place offstage when the play is performed but can be shown in gory detail on screen. Really the only thing the trailer doesn’t hint at is how the film will handle the play’s supernatural elements.
Macbeth made its debut at Cannes last month and is set to open in the U.K. on October 2. So far there’s no official US release date, but hopefully something wicked will this way come sooner rather than later.
