Michelle MacLaren officially signs on to direct Wonder Woman
Completing a news day devoted largely to confirming things we already kind of suspected, Game Of Thrones and Breaking Bad director Michelle MacLaren has officially signed on to direct DC’s Wonder Woman. MacLaren has been a frontrunner for the job, which Warner Bros. specifically wanted to assign to a female director, for a while now. (The Babadook’s Jennifer Kent and Homeland director/executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter were reportedly also under consideration.) MacLaren will be the second woman to direct a superhero movie of any sort (the first was Lexi Alexander, who directed Punisher: War Zone), and the first to helm the big-budget tentpole kind.
MacLaren has apparently also signed on to help develop the story with screenwriters and star Gal Gadot, an opportunity for her to bring her experience with compelling drama to a cinematic universe that has been known to put style before substance. The MacLaren-directed Wonder Woman movie is scheduled to debut on June 23, 2017.
