Michelle Obama enlists Janelle Monaé and Missy Elliott to help promote girls’ education
Being the First Lady seems like a sweet gig, if only because of the perks that come with the job. You can go on Nashville, hang out with Billy Eichner, visit Qatar with Conan O’Brien, drop some sick rhymes, and probably even blow stuff up with a drone from time to time. This week, Michelle Obama will be making a keynote speech at SXSW to promote her Let Girls Learn initiative, and to help hype up the event she has enlisted the help of Missy Elliott, Diane Warren, Sophia Bush, and Queen Latifah—all of whom are definitely in the address book on her phone. She probably didn’t even have to go through their “people.” She just called them up and said, “Come help me talk about why it’s important to let girls all over the world get an education.”
FLOTUS isn’t stopping there, though. She also made millions of #SquadGoals irrelevant by getting Janelle Monáe, Kelly Rowland, Kelly Clarkson, Zendaya, Lea Michele, and more to record a Let Girls Learn song (written by Diane Warren) called “This Is For My Girls.” The First Lady is making her speech tomorrow morning, and the song will be released tonight at midnight.
