Mickey Rourke fully aware that Passion Play is terrible
Despite an ad campaign that generously awarded him an Oscar, Mickey Rourke apparently feels no need to return the favor. Vulture caught up with Rourke at the after-party for the premiere of Scream 4, where Rourke spoke candidly about the upcoming Passion Play, a film that features Rourke playing a jazz trumpeter who rescues Megan Fox’s stripper-angel from a carnival and exchanges tedious existential banter with a gangster played by Bill Murray. Surprisingly, he doesn’t think it’s all that great:
What about your movie with Megan Fox and Bill Murray?
Terrible. Another terrible movie. But, you know, in your career and all the movies you make, you’re going to make dozens of terrible ones.
You called Megan Fox, like, one of the best actresses of all time.
That I worked with [smirk].
That movie’s getting limited release.
That’s because it’s not very good.
Rourke was also asked about 13, a movie he’d made recently with the after-party’s musical guest 50 Cent: Calling it “a really bad movie” as well as “terrible,” he added, “It’s so bad it can’t get out.” Asked why he made it, then, Rourke responded bluntly, “For the money.” Mickey Rourke: officially our greatest living celebrity.
