As reported by The Guardian, Microsoft is going to begin phasing out its iconic Microsoft Paint program with the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Paint has been part of the Windows suite for 32 years, so its death is certainly the end of an era, even if Microsoft intends to replace it with the similarly basic and largely featureless design program Paint 3D. Either way, the crummy program that barely lets you do anything and was mostly known for producing bad art won’t be around for much longer.
Technically, Paint is being “deprecated,” which is the word Microsoft uses for features that “are not in active development and might be removed in future releases.” That means Microsoft is essentially abandoning it and will most likely remove it entirely in a later update, so people looking to waste some time on a Windows PC will have to find some other way to do it. Windows still comes with Minesweeper, right?
