Mike Magnuson: The Right Man For The Job

Mike Magnuson's masterful first novel is the story of Gunnar "Cheese" Lund, an overgrown Wisconsin boy who leaves his wife for Margaret, a spoiled trust-fund grad student. When he follows her to Columbus and lands a job repossessing furniture for an inner-city rental store, he forms a partnership with big, bad, black Dewy Bishop, small-time repo king. As his relationship with Margaret gets stranger and uglier, Gunnar begins spending more and more time with Dewy at the familiar ugliness of his job, where at least he can try to match his ugly world's brute anger with his own. The Right Man For The Job is a strangely beautiful, brutally honest, darkly funny novel set in a world where everybody loves the wrong people for the right reasons, nobody even owns their own furniture, and the thought of the future is simply unbearable. It's an exceptional piece of day-shift noir, and a must-read for fans of American fiction.
