Miles Teller is the Goose baby in Top Gun: Maverick

Actors have an annoying habit of aging, which can cause problems when Hollywood decides to go back and make sequels to old movies. Luckily, the movie industry keeps churning out new actors who are younger and more popular, allowing studios to cast people as the never-before-mentioned son or daughter of an old movie character. The latest young actor to take advantage of this is Miles Teller, who is now set to star in Top Gun: Maverick as the son of Goose, Anthony Edwards’ character from the first movie.

That comes from Variety, which says Tom Cruise—who is aging, no matter what he wants you to think—recently met with Teller, Glen Powell, and Nicholas Hoult for the role of Goose Jr., with Teller evidently beating out those other young guys. Edwards won’t be in Top Gun: Maverick, since Goose died in the first movie, but Cruise and Val Kilmer will be reprising their roles as Maverick and Iceman.

The Variety story doesn’t say what Teller’s cool callsign will be, but Gosling seems like the obvious choice and if they don’t at least make a joke about that, we’re going to make some angry honking sounds (like a goose would).
