Miley Cyrus and Kanye West teamed up, musical apocalypse may be due
Shortly after the 2013 Grammys—when the two of them were arguably at the height of their command of both the zeitgeist, and the capslock key of internet commenters everywhere—artists/human lightning rods Miley Cyrus and Kanye West briefly teamed up for a never-released song. Now, the track—a remix of “Black Skinhead,” off West’s 2013 album Yeezus—has surfaced on the internet, offering fans a peek into a musical world where the two most fun-to-hate figures in the Western musical world joined their easy-to-eyeroll-but-hard-to-dismiss talents.
It’s a weird beast; Cyrus’ major contribution to the track seems to be the chorus, a cover of Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” while the various flourishes distract from the original song’s air of expertly crafted tension and oppression. Still, if you’re into odd artifacts of the long-distant days of three years ago, it’s worth a listen—for novelty factor if nothing else.
